Rebeka Mertena represented Latvia in two international tournaments

One of the leading Liepaja Tennis Sport School students, Rebeka Mertena, from March 9th to 24th participated in two International Tennis federation and Tennis Europe Development Championship tournaments for U14 group in Belek, Turkey. Together in the tournament participated players from 18 countries, 2 girls and 2 boys from each. Latvia was represented by Roberts Grinvalds, Daniils Batmanovs, Daniela Vismane and from Liepaja – Rebeka Mertena. Captain of U14 group team Latvia – Daiga Juska.

As couch Daiga Juska said, this kind of tournaments are very good for young tennis players, because they are playing quite a lot games in a tournament and the number of plays doesn’t change according to wins or losses. New players get good experience in playing at international tournament against representatives from different countries, they get new friends, knowledge and they can improve their communication skills.

Together in both tournaments, Rebeka played 12 games, two of them were doubles with Daniela Vismane. Sadly, but in both doubles they lost.

In first tournament Rebeka lost first game against Zinovia Vaneva from Bulgaria, but she won remaining 4 games and took 17th place.

The second tournament Rebeca began with two wins against representatives from Macedonia and Armenia. At 3rd round she met her offender from 1st tournament and again Rebeka lost with a score 2-6 and 5-7. Rebeka lost next game against Belarus, but in game for 7th place Rebeka won another representative from Macedonia with a score 7(1)-6 and 6-3. So Liepaja Tennis Sport school student Rebeka took 7th place at this tournament.
