From September 12th to 14th at Vidzeme Olympic center in Valmiera will take place Davis Cup by BNP Paribas duel in tennis where will meet team Latvia against team Austria. On September 2nd captains from both teams announced players. Team Latvia will represent Ernests Gulbis, Andis Juška, Jānis Podžus and Miķelis Lībietis.
Davis cup is team competition in tennis, and it began in year 1900. This year in different levels participated teams from 122 countries, but team Latviais competing at Europe- Africa zone 1st group. First duel took place February in Slovakia, where our tennis players lost to team Slovakia. Now we have to continue our games for staying in this group. We have to compete against team Austria, who as well lost to team Slovakia. Till now team Latvia and team Austria haven’t met at Davis Cup. At this moment in Davis Cup ranking team Latvia is in 39th place, but team Austria – 21st place.
This year the Davis Cup will be played at Vidzeme Olympic center in Valmiera. As in previous games, this time as well the games will be played on special laid hard court. 10 days before games both team captains announced players who will play at this duel.
Team Latvia will be represented by Ernests Gulbis, Andis Juška, Jānis Podžus and Miķelis Lībietis, meanwhile team Austria will be represented by Jurgen Melzer, Martin Fischer, Phillipp Oswald and Alexander Peya. Duel between team Latvia and team Austria will consist from 5 individual games. Friday from 15:00 will be first two single games, Saturday at 15:00 double game, but Sunday from 14:00 remaining two single games. Match sequence will be set on September 11th, during official draw.
Tickets can be bought at „Biļešu serviss” (Ticket service) selling points and in internet (www.bilesuserviss.lv). Ticket prices (depending of seat category) for all three game days will cost 10, 15 or 20 euro, but for only one game day – 5, 7 or 10 euro. Ticket prices for children – 2 euro for day.
Davis Cup games between team Latvia and team Austria is supported by Itera, Skonto būve, Valmiera city, Valmieras stiklašķiedra, shopping center Valleta and Mercedes.
